In 2018 a customer in the United States ordered a 1500-type coil-to-coil 8K mirror polishing line — continuous strip processing to a full mirror finish, at 1500 mm working width.
What was supplied
Coil-to-coil 8K is the most demanding configuration we build. The line decoils, grinds, polishes through progressive stages, buffs to mirror clarity, washes, dries and laminates — without the strip stopping, and without any opportunity to re-work a section that did not come out right.
- Continuous strip processing. Coil in, mirror coil out, no per-piece handling.
- Full integrated sequence. Grinding through to film lamination in a single pass.
- Export delivery. Packed and shipped for export, then installed and commissioned at the customer's site.
Why this line is the hard one
Reflectivity is a direct function of contact pressure, so tension that varies down the length of a coil produces visible banding in the finished surface. Continuous buffing also puts sustained heat into strip that conducts it poorly, and stainless discolours under heat in a way that cannot be polished out. Getting both under control in production — not on a sample length — is what separates a line that holds 8K from one that only demonstrates it.
Delivery and outcome
The equipment was delivered and commissioned successfully and the customer's feedback was positive. More significantly for us, the project established our credentials in the North American market: a coil-to-coil 8K line is the product where our engineering is most exposed, and it was the reference that opened the door to subsequent work in Europe and North America.
