An 8K super mirror line for cut sheet is a single integrated process: grind, polish through progressively finer stages, buff to clarity, wash, dry and laminate — all in one pass, without the sheet leaving the line or being handled between stages. That integration is the entire point. A mirror finish is not difficult because any single stage is hard; it is difficult because the surface cannot be allowed to be touched, contaminated or interrupted between stages.
Why the stages cannot be split across separate machines
Every time sheet is handled, stacked and re-fed, three things happen: the surface picks up contamination, the flatness changes slightly, and the abrasive pattern from the previous stage oxidises or gets scratched. On a satin finish these are invisible. On a mirror they are not. Lines that produce 8K reliably are continuous for exactly this reason.
What the line contains
- Grinding. Removes mill defects and establishes flatness. Decides the ceiling on the final result.
- Intermediate polishing. Several progressive abrasive stages. The count depends on incoming condition, not on a fixed recipe.
- Buffing. Cutting compound then finishing compound, converting fine satin to mirror.
- Washing and drying. Compound residue left on the surface blooms into visible staining within days.
- Protective film. Applied before the sheet leaves the line. An 8K surface is damaged by almost any contact.
The honest constraints
We would rather set expectations correctly than quote a line that disappoints. Three things limit 8K output, and none of them are fixed by buying a better machine:
- Base material. Inclusion banding and coarse grain in the steel will not polish out. This is the most common cause of a line "not reaching 8K" when the machine is performing normally.
- Flatness. Polishing amplifies flatness errors rather than removing them.
- Incoming consistency. Mixed mill sources and mixed lots mean the sequence has to be set for the worst case, which slows everything down.
How the result is checked
Mirror quality is judged by the reflected image, not by a gloss number alone. A usable acceptance check: hold a straight edge or a printed grid some distance from the panel and read the reflection. Distortion means a flatness problem; loss of contrast means haze; a visible directional pattern means the sequence was compressed. We agree the acceptance method with you before the line is built so that commissioning is a measurement, not an argument.
Installation and commissioning
These lines are delivered as a complete system. We handle installation, commissioning and operator training at your site, and we run the line on your material before handover — not on sample sheet brought in for the occasion. If it will not hold 8K on the material you actually buy, that is the point at which it should be discovered.
